This months assignment: September 2013 (Freeze Water)

The September editor’s assignment is to “freeze” water, and we don’t mean into ice! Many photos depict water with a soft silky texture, but you can also show it as motionless or “frozen” in time. Use fast shutter speeds to “freeze” fast moving water. Capture a wave about to crash, a spray of bubbles from a fountain, or freeze river rapids. Only one image from all submitted images will be chosen as the September assignment winner. Each person can only enter one photo. The deadline for this assignment is October 6th, 2013. Anything uploaded after the deadline will be ineligible.

Tips: Try ISO 400 or 800 in lower lighting conditions. This technique is easily controlled using either manual mode (M) or shutter priority (TV/S). You are best to use shutter speeds of 1/500th sec. or faster to freeze the action.

Prizes: The winning image will be published in the winter (January 2014) issue of OPC and the winner will receive The Cotton Carrier 2 Camera Photo System, photographer Noel Chenier’s Photography Assignment Generator App for DSLRs available for your iPad.
