Climbing to the top!

If you’re ever driving down the Banff-Jasper highway and see a couple of photographers with oversized tripods and telephoto lenses, chances are you’re going to slow down. You might even pull over and quickly tiptoe across the highway towards them to sneak a peek for yourself. Where’s the animal, you may be wondering. Within minutes of the first car stopping, more onlookers will arrive. Soon, you will have what Daryl Benson calls the “cascade effect.” Tour buses will stop and traffic will back up both ends of the popular highway — all in search of that majestic animal. “There’s a lasting curiosity from others,” Benson says, “and there’s only one remedy I’m aware of to prevent it from happening.” The trick, he says, is to make a large sign and poster it in your vehicle’s windows that reads: “There is no animal. I’m a landscape photographer!” ...
