winter

Uploaded by Roger Casement

We have had a very mild winter in the Niagara Region so when it snowed overnight in February I grabbed my camera and went for an early morning hike.  At Terrace Creek falls in Short Hills park in St.Catharines there was a light dusting of snow on the moss covered rocks.  I made several images of this scene from different angles and I like this one the best.  It was a beautiful, quiet, picturesque morning at the falls and I'm glad I was there to capture a little slice of it.

Nothing says Canadian winter more than the outdoor rink. Always cold, always fun.

Winter is about new beginnings. A time when the ground rests in a frozen sleep before the vibrance of spring arrives.  This winter, our new beginning is our 3 month old German Blue Shepherd puppy as he had brought an innocent and invigorating feel to the winter months. We were out on an late afternoon walk trying to beat the dark on a crisp -18'C day with Timber who was able to contain his excitement only long enough for me to quickly take his portrait before he was back romping and rolling in the in the sticky snow.

Early morning on Bass Lake, Ontario after the one good snowfall we've had all season and before the zamboni arrived.  Taken with Canon T3i, Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 lens with polarizing filter, multiple exposures merged with Photomatix and tweaked in Photoshop.  First time using HDR software!
