Mountains

Pyramid Lake is one of the most gorgeous locations in Jasper National Park and is often photographed.  A combination of the mist rising off the lake and the early morning light created a mystical feeling to the morning.  At any moment, one expected to hear a bull elk calling or perhaps the lady of the lake to appear.

This picture was taken at the Tekerra Lodge in Jasper in July 2011. My husband and son Colton were just looking at the view of the Athabasca River seen at the lodge.

Anna, Roxy (my dog), and I went to the mountains during the September 2010 long weekend. Most of the time was spent along the Icefields Parkway, for the night we slept in the car. We got to this location late at night  (below the empty mark on the gas gauge)  and set up the car to sleep.  The first shots I took were from the Lower Waterfowl Lake. I knew it would be a good spot for the sun lighting up the eastern facing mountain range. I believe the tall peak is Mt. Chephren. I woke up about an hour and a half before sunrise to scout of compositions with the help of my flashlight.  Started shooting here before the sun came up with some long exposures and then the light finally started to hit the mountain. I shot a bunch of compositions, mostly in panoramic style.

Landscape oriented shot of Nares Lake near Carcross, Yukon. There was an incredible band of sunlight caused by cloud cover and mountains behind me. I used a Gold-N-Blue Polarizer to get this shot.

In winter, vermilion lakes are all covered by snow and ice, with the remote mountains and lone rock, make an interesting "desert feel" image.

When I was on a trip back to Calgary, I observed these beautiful clouds covered mountains. I parked my car on an overpass bridge and captured this picture. There were no cars at the moment on highway 1, but we still could see human interaction with nature.

Kananaskis country offers beautiful leaf colors in September, as well as magical morning mist. This picture was taken about one hour after sunrise at wedge pond. The water is calm and shows perfect reflections of the remote mountains.

I used a Nikon D50, tripod and polarizing filter to capture this scene in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.
