When I lived in Ontario I would hike and bike Point Pelee. Every weekend there would be something different to see. Cactus, Frogs, Monarchs etc. I loved hiking near Tobermory as well. Ojibway park was excellent and close to my home. Deer there, were everywhere, and so were hummingbirds.

For underwater photography I found the Florida Keys and Curacao were my favorites for macro shots of tiny critters. Tobermory for wrecks of schooners, and North Carolina for wrecks of World War II German Subs, and their victims.

I now live near Vancouver and spend half my time trying to decide where the heck to go. There are sooooo many trails and walks here that it has become frustrating to decide where to go. So far the Fraser Canyon, Hope, Buntzen Lake, and virtually anywhere on Hwy 99, if you are headed to, and beyond Whistler, works for me. The animals are now becoming active so I expect to take lots of wildlife shots (mosquitos permitting).

If you like waterfalls, BC has a million of them. A billion of them after it rains.

I've resigned myself to the fact that it rains here once in a while, so I rigged up my D200 with a Kata rain cover, and a 1 dollar poncho for me. Priorities

Bruster - I agree the underwater opportunities here in Ontario are quite amazing -Tobermory and also the St. Lawrence River system wrecks. It is amazing the type of shipwrecks you can take pictures of here. Course topside pictures are certainly not so bad either Wink

I do have to say we have a few amazing waterfalls in our area as well. Websters falls being one of them. I loved shooting this one after a large snowfall. It was like walking into some Alice in Wonderland adventure. Smokey Hollow has to be one of my favs. I don't know what it is about that waterfall but I just love going there as much as I can.

I have found the same thing. Something compels me to go to the same places over and over and over. Each time I would get a different perspective on the same shot I took fifty times before.

One of my favorite places in Ontario was Ojibway park in Windsor (Lasalle). One trip I would see 15 deer, then, not see any for the next year. Or, I would take pictures of birds at a feeding station and never see the same birds. The last 2 months I was in Ontario I had the luck of seeing and getting some great pictures of a Ruby Throated Hummingbird. Never saw one there before, but 2007 was the year of the Hummingbird, for me.

I am finding the same thing in BC.

Let me see, the bird sanctuary, the zoo, and, oh yes, the mountains to the west. Very Happy

Cheers,

I really enjoy shooting in the Niagara Region, Algonquin Park and in the Gatineau area of Quebec.
On Monday I am planning on going to the Bruce Peninsula through Owen Sound to Tobermory and then on to Manitoulin Island.
I have been meaning to do this for a long time and this year I finally get the chance. I am really looking forward to this.
As of 4:01 pm today, I am officially on vacation.

John,

I just did this the week of Aug 2 as well. My new fav place is now Manitoulin Island. I've always traveled the Bruce Peninsula, which has been my fav, and now that I made it onto the ferry and over to the Island I'm pretty impressed with what I saw. Can't wait to do it again next year!

The Bruce Peninsula has endless possibilities. I used to roam the Bruce for years. The best Northern Lights I've ever seen was at Dyer's Bay.

Hi all. This is my first post. First off, I just want to say how great it is to have a Canadian magazine and a Canadian forum. There are some great choices out there for both, but it is wonderful having something Canadian. I have really enjoyed the magazine so far!

I'm out on the prairies, but I get out to Vancouver Island Island quite regularly. So many fantastic places there: Strathcona Park, Newcastle Island, Tofino, ... . But I would have to say my favourite is the Ucluelet/Pacific Rim National Park area. Beautiful coastal scenes and great wildlife. The hiking is good too. The area has become quite popular so unfortunately accommodations are a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

I would like to throw out a question on this topic. There have been a lot of west coast postings and even more Ontario postings. Does anybody have any favourite places in Manitoba, whether it be for wildlife or scenery?

Thanks

I just came back from Kluane National Park in the Yukon and I have to say it was my favourite photo location so far. Funny enough you even have a little article about it in the new fall issue! I can't help but agree with Kevin. A photo op is lurking around every corner. Fantastic scenery and wildlife. Other than that I really like the Sea to Sky corridor (Garibaldi Prov. Park) and Vancouver Island (west coast).
Keep up the good work! Cheers

I do get out much more, but for the most local and immediate, I'd say Burnaby Lake. I live within walking distance of Burnaby Lake, a large urban watershed within the Metro Vancouver area. It's a great area to walk, look and take photos. The bird life is pretty good, considering the freeway can always be heard, although not seen. I've photographed herons, Canada geese and their chicks, enough ducks, and long billed dowitchers. I've got to get there more often to complete my gallery.

One of my favourite places has to be Newfoundland. With it's unspoiled, rugged coastal scenery and the many quaint fishing villages dotted around, there seems to be a picture postcard opportunity at every turn. Wildlife is abundantly plentiful on land, air and sea.

On my last trip, I was particularly fascinated by some of the old abandoned buildings .. possibly sad remnants of better times gone-by.

Oh and the bonus is the deliciously breathable fresh air (unlike the stuffy, heavy, humid stuff we endure here).

Fish Creek Provincial Park right here in Calgary is a big favorite of mine. Also, drives along highway 1A past Cochrane are also pretty neat too for scenes...makes a nice change from taking the Trans Canada to get to the mountains.

My wife and I are fortunate to own a cottage on the shores of Georgian Bay, just north of Penetanguishene.

When I'm standing on the shore, I can see Awenda Provincial Park about three kilometres to the west and Beausoliel Island (Parks Canada) about two kilometres to the east.

Georgian Bay, the two Canadian natural parks and the woods surrounding our cottage are my four seasons favourite "Photographic Locations".

I consider myself truly to be a very lucky individual.

On about three or four occasions each year, I travel from Chicago to the Batchawana Bay area of Ontario. Lake Superior Provincial Park is magnificent. My favorite trails are the Sand River and Orphan Lake. I also have great fondness for Vancouver Island and specifically the Tofino area.

These days, I find I often take a camera with me when I play golf, and the wildlife can be awesome at times--locally, in the Montreal area, the golf courses have quite a variety of subjects to capture, whether Herons, Foxes, or Falcons, and this is pretty much what I find is the case everywhere, or so it seems.

Close to home, I can also go to a Wildlife Sanctuary located on the small island of Ile Bizard north of the island of Montreal, and these places offer lots of photo ops that can be very enjoyable.

Later,
Bill

Next month my wife and I will be driving out to Port Hardy on the North Island to visit my family. I've wanted to do this for several years now. The fun part of this is that we can take pictures from the foothills to the ocean!

I think it will be a really great opportunity to show through pictures what a road trip from the edge of the flat lands to the west coast looks like. A lot of people don't know what there is to see between Calgary and the west coast.

The answer though, is everything from rolling grasslands to glacier lakes,to an actual desert! To old growth forests with cedar trees that are 10 ft. through the middle. AND that's not to mention the chance to see bears, ducks, eagles, big horn sheep, rattle snakes, orcas, .... We live in the greatest country for being outdoors and making pictures of really cool stuff that most of the people on earth will never see and experience for themselves. HOW LUCKY IS THAT! Very Happy

And what is even more cool to me? Knowing that we could just as easily go east through the prairies and out to Signal Hill NL. And STILL see equally amazing things! I always love seeing peoples photos from all corners of Canada. One could spend a lifetime and never get a picture of it all. Very Happy
