Hi there!
My husband, son and I are planning a trip to PEI and Nova Scotia in early July of 2010.
On a another thread I saw some of the suggestions for places to get great photos in Nova Scotia.
But what about PEI?
So far we've got stops planned for the northern and eastern sides of PEI. I'm sure there are many places for great photo ops, but what would you recommend?
Thanks! |

Canada's Team, the latest issue of Outdoor Photography Canada, has a very interesting article on PEI by John Sylvester in which he gives some ideas of his favourite places to shoot. I was last there several years ago and learned a couple of things, a lot depends on what you want to shoot - ocean shots and shore images with or without ships and fishing boats, traditional scenery and landscapes that vary depending on the season, and historic things - buildings, etc., of which the island is rich in those aspects of Canada's early political history. Also, if you Google "Prince Edward Island" you will find all kinds of interesting information on places to go and things to see and presumably photograph. HTH.
Cheers,
WesternGuy
P.S. Don't forget the Confederation Bridge and the Ocean around it. |

I spent a year living in Summerside with the Military when the base was closing there in the late 80's. One of my favourite places to visit was the western end of the province. Doing the complete drive around that end of the Island, up to Tignish, going through Skinner's Pond where Stompin Tom Connors lived for part of his life.
I don't remember exactly where, I think it's around Campbellton, Burton, Capr Wolfe, but there was an old Lighthouse and they turned the lower part into a restaurant and the upper part into a bed and breakfast. The food was fantastic and the prices very reasonable.
The view up along that drive is breathtaking. I have to say though, there really isn't any place on the Island that isn't worth a visit. Also, it doesn't take long to drive across/around the Island. _________________ We don't stop laughing because we get old, we get old because we stop laughing. |

Yes, I did read the latest issue with the article about PEI.
But I appreciate your tips as well.
Thanks for your reply.
And if you think of anything else, please be sure to add it.
Thanks again! |

It all depends on your interests of course
there are many large churches throughout the provinces which many people find interesting the stone work in some of them is truly awesome
Lighthouses can be a very popular subject and they of course can be found all along the extensive coastlines
a google search yielded this site in Nova Scotia
http://www.nslps.com/
when i dreamed up a project to Photograph lighthouses
one thing you might consider re PEI is going onto the Island Via Confederation Bridge taking a grand Tour then exiting via the Ferry to Pictou no differance in price and it gets you to a new location
Highlands National Park in Cape Breton NS is a great spot for scenery throughout the year and also offers semi tame wildlife up to the size of Moose Many waterfalls as well
a few hints

Thanks Mike!
We're flying into Halifax, heading into PEI via the bridge, staying for about 5 nights and then going back to Nova Scotia via the ferry.
From there, we're heading to Cape Breton Island for 5 nights. I can't wait!
Thanks for the link to that site. I'm going to check it out tonight.

PEI is great, with plenty of possibilities at ports and harbours, light houses, shore lines, farms, etc.
I love all of our maritime provinces, and PEI was one of the first places that I really started to use my first quality SLR and appreciate what I could capture with it. _________________ Photo Bug |
