Eventhough your cameras system says it is in focus you have to make sure your shutter speed is fast enough if hand holding to freeze the action. Generally if you are using a 300mm lens, make sure your shutter speed is at least 1/500th of a second or faster. If you were using a tripod to take the shot then make sure your mirror is locked up before taking the shot and do not touch the tripod. Use a cable release to help reduce camera shake.
Another thing to keep in mind is your ISO. Too high of an ISO can cause noise which will also make the image appear less sharp. The quality of your lens should also be considered.
If all of this is accounted for and you are still getting unsharp images you may want to have your system looked at by your manufacturer for calibration issues.
